Elderly Couple Killed In Semi-Truck Crash Were Married 68 Years

Carl Adden, 95, and Isabelle Adden, 92, were killed when a semi-truck hit them on county road 500 East.

MORRISONVILLE, IL — A married couple in their 90s was killed in a crash involving a semi-truck outside of Morrisonville Tuesday afternoon.

Illinois State Police said the driver, 95-year-old Carl Adden, was thrown from his Cadillac when a semi-truck traveling east towards county road 500 North struck the couple's vehicle. Just before the crash, police said, Adden failed to properly stop at a stop sign while driving northbound on county road 500 East.

Carl Adden was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Christian County Coroner's office. The Sangamon County Coroner's office confirmed his wife, 92-year-old passenger Isabelle Adden, was airlifted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield where she was pronounced dead later that night.

A preliminary report from the state police states the crash occurred just before 2 p.m. The semi-truck driver, 25-year-old Michael Lockwood of Athens, was uninjured.

According to the couple's obituary, Isabelle — she liked to be called "Izzie"— and Carl were married for 68 years. He was an Army veteran who fought at the Battle of the Bulge, and she was an avid lover of poetry.
