One of The Greek’s greatest gifts was his ability to make friends wherever he went. In fact, people he met once never forgot him, probably because whatever he said made them laugh. He firmly believed in treating all people with respect and whether he was meeting a future president or a homeless person asking for change, he gave them his friendship equally.

Those who knew The Greek know that he loved fishing, the Cubs and the Bears. And the stories are true: he believed that if he yelled loudly enough at the TV on Sundays, the Bears would finally hear him and finally play the way he knew they could. But the greatest love in his life was his late wife, Diane. It’s comforting to know they are happy together again.

Tom showed his children, Kevin, Luke and Careen, his love by offering his advice whether they liked it or not. Many times they heard, “Set the hook, you’re giving him slack!” or “Close the door, I’m not heating the outside!”

As a lover of animals and the environment, we can all take comfort knowing that The Greek has taken up permanent residence at his lake in Canada; watching the lake, feeding the squirrels and maybe finally taking his daughter’s advice to use the red hook to catch that big walleye.

Tom is survived by his three children, Kevin (Gina) Gordon, Luke Gordon, and Careen Gordon; his grandsons, Josh (Brittney) Gordon and Tyler Gordon; and many brothers and sisters.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Diane Gordon and one grandson, Jared Gordon.
