SPRINGFIELD, IL — As restaurants, bars, schools, casinos and pretty much everything else across the state closes in an attempt to halt the spread of coronavirus, the March 17 primary election is still on, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Sunday.

"Right now, every decision that I make is between a bad choice and a less-bad choice," he said. "I can’t fail to make a decision at all. That is what I know."

With many thousands of people who have already voted early or voted by mail — and a record number of requests for vote-by-mail ballots in Chicago — the election is still on.

"Democracy must continue," Pritzker said. "None of these decisions I come to lightly and I work hard to consider the benefits and the consequences of each decision."
