SPRINGFIELD, IL — Three people died Friday when a gunman opened fire at the Bunn-O-Matic warehouse in Springfield, police said. They were identified as 54-year-old Marsha Strumpher, 61-year-old Bill Gibbons and 25-year-old Christopher Aumiller, all of Springfield.

Authorities said Aumiller and Gibbons were shot inside the facility and died at the scene. Strumpher, who was found shot in the parking lot, died around 4:30 p.m. Friday at HSHS St. John's Hospital, Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon told the Associated Press.

Gibbons worked on race cars in his spare time and was an avid fisherman, according to ABC 20. The families of Aumiller and Strumpher have asked for privacy, the news stations said.

Police identified the accused shooter as Michael L. Collins, 48, of Springfield. He was found dead in his truck in Morgan County around 1:49 p.m. of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. Collins and the victims were all employees of Bunn-O-Matic, which primarily manufactures coffee makers and other food service equipment.

Springfield police said Collins had a valid firearm owners identification card. Authorities said the last "criminal contact" police had with Collins was earlier this month, but did not offer details on the case. The gun used in Friday's shooting was found in Collins' vehicle, according to police.

Authorities said Collins and his coworkers had all arrived to work around 7 a.m. Friday in Building A3, which is the welding area of the facility. There were about 175 other employees in the facility at the time of the shooting.

According to Springfield Police Chief Kenny Winslow, a 911 caller reported the shooting at 11:03 a.m., and the first officer arrived at the scene about a minute later.

Winslow said the men killed were in their 20s and 60s, while the woman who was shot is in her 50s.

"We ask that you keep the victims of this horrific crime and their family in your thoughts and prayers, along with our community members and the employees of Bunn," Winslow said.
