Trump Tests Positive For Coronavirus: Illinois Officials React
Despite previous clashes with the president, several Illinois Democrats sent well-wishes to him and first lady Melania Trump.

ILLINOIS — Late Thursday, just hours after news emerged that one of his closest advisers had tested positive for the coronavirus, President Donald Trump announced that he and first lady Melania Trump have also tested positive and will begin isolating. The news sparked reactions from across the globe, including in Illinois.
Friday morning, Gov. J.B. Pritzker — who has often criticized Trump's response to the coronavirus, tweeted his support to the president, writing, "I wish the President and First Lady a speedy recovery."

Democratic Congressman Dan Lipinski (3rd District) also reacted Friday morning, issuing a statement saying, "Wishing the President and First Lady a smooth and speedy recovery as they battle COVID-19. My prayers are with them, their family, and the White House medical team as they work to address the virus and prevent further spread."
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who had strong words for the president earlier this week, also sent her well-wishes, using the announcement to remind residents to wear a mask.

I wish the President and First Lady a speedy recovery. Let this be a reminder to us all that COVID-19 is real, remains present, and powerful. Please wear a mask.

Downstate Republican Congressman Mike Bost (12th District) said that he and his wife "send our prayers for a speedy recovery to @POTUS and @FLOTUS, as well as any other family facing a similar health challenge from this virus." Bost added, "Fortunately, the early indications in the President and First Lady's cases are that the symptoms appear mild."
Congressman Rodney Davis (13th District), who tested positive for coronavirus himself in August, also reacted.
"My family and I send our prayers and well wishes to President Trump and the First Lady for a speedy recovery from COVID-19," Davis said in a statement. "As someone who contracted the virus and recovered, I know the strain it can put on your loved ones and work colleagues. It's important for us all to follow the guidelines and do our part to limit the spread and get through this pandemic together.
"The positive tests from the President and a staffer further highlight the need for testing on Capitol Hill," Davis added. "Since May, I’ve asked Speaker Pelosi through multiple letters and requests for a health monitoring plan that will help stop the spread and protect members, staff, press, and all of our essential workers to ensure Congress can continue to work on behalf of the American people."
The president and first lady tested positive for the coronavirus hours after close adviser Hope Hicks — who had traveled with the president several times this week, including to a rally in Minnesota and to the presidential debate Tuesday in Cleveland — also tested positive.
Trump's son Barron, who lives at the White House, reportedly tested negative.
