Take a Peek Inside 'Munster House' in St. Charles
The home, which was one of the first built on South Seventh Street, is selling for $500,000. An open house is scheduled for this weekend.
ST. CHARLES, IL — A “historically significant” home in St. Charles, which neighborhood children referred to as the “Munster House” in the 1960s, has gone up for sale. And for those interested in buying (it’s selling for $500,000) or who are just curious as to what the interior looks like, you can take a peek inside the mansion at 405 S. Seventh Street at an open house on April 7. The beautiful Queen-Anne was built in 1895 by Col. Charles Miller, who was a Civil War sergeant and the Kane County Clerk at the time.
It was one of four mansions originally built on South Seventh Street, according to the realtor.com listing.
The house was first referred to as the Colonel’s house and later, in the 1960s, became known as the Munster House because of its green paint at the time, Daily Herald columnist David Heun writes, which made it look like the home that Herman Munster from "The Munsters" television show lived in.

"It's really in good shape, with a lot of the original woodwork and details still in place," Realtor Kim Scott of Coldwell Banker told the Daily Herald. "This house has been kept up really well."
Most recently, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom home served as an assisted living facility for the Robin's Nest service. Nest has four similar homes in the area and the South Seventh Street location became known as the Raven's branch, according to the Daily Herald. It's unclear why Nest has decided to sell the property, Heun reports in his column.
