6 New Proposed Illinois Constitution Amendments

Our state constitution is a piece of junk not worth the paper upon which it’s written. It’s in desperate need of a full re-write or several amendments at least.

You could be forgiven if that’s what you concluded if you were forced, as punishment of course, to monitor every move over the past week of the elected officials you pay to represent you in Illinois.

Lawmakers awoke from their post-primary spring slumber and suddenly have been scratching out, erasing and scrawling more new amendments for our state’s charter than you could run through a copier without causing a paper jam.

There are multiple versions in the House and Senate of six topics to change in the constitution. They include provisions to change our income tax structure, our redistricting methods, our school funding obligations, our transportation funding and whether the state should have a lieutenant governor. (Don’t take it personally, Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti, really.)
