Amazon Hiring 2,000 In South Suburbs: Reports
The company will need to fill positions at new fulfillment centers in Matteson and Markham.

MATTESON, IL — Amazon is building two new fulfillment centers in the south suburbs and plans to hire about 2,000 people. The jobs will be at the new facilities going up in Matteson and Markham, according to multiple reports.
The new fulfillment centers "will serve as an economic engine for Cook County's Southland," Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said.
Preckwinkle and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced the addition of new centers and planned hires on Monday.

State Sen. Michael Hastings, whose 19th District covers the new centers, was among the other elected officials to chime in in support of the project.
“These projects are some of the most important regional projects we have had in decades," he said.

"Residents have contacted my office with concerns about increased traffic, road construction, and construction noise, but I want to reassure them that state and local governments are working to ensure that their concerns are addressed."
The 2,000 new jobs are not including the construction jobs that will be needed to help build the new facilities, WGN reported.
The new center in Matteson is slated to take up 122 acres near the corner of Harlem Avenue and Vollmer Road, the Daily Southtown has reported. It's near both the villages of Tinley Park and Frankfort.
Amazon's Markham facility is planned near the corner of 159th and Western, the Sun-Times reports.
The nearest Amazon centers to the south suburbs now are in Monee, Joliet and Minooka.
