TINLEY PARK, Ill. – The Village of Tinley Park has granted a second amendment to its economic incentive agreement with a prospective brewing company that has plans on opening in the downtown.
The Village Board of Trustees members voted 6-0 Tuesday, May 18, to allow Banging Gavel Brews, 6811 Hickory St., to use its outdoor patio area from May 27 to Nov. 1 as a beer garden while the brewpub remains under construction.

“The owners see an opportunity to provide a temporary outdoor experience that will be inviting and safe while the pandemic continues,” Trustee Michael Mueller said during the discussion. “A site plan and operations summary has been provided for the proposed beer garden and are exhibits to the agreement. The beer garden will be required to have meals available during hours of operation, and they must comply with all Village regulations.”
Mueller also said the new date for completion of the brewpub has been extended to Dec. 31, 2022, after which the agreement will terminate.

Trustee William Brennan asked if the business has an idea as to when the construction might be finished.
“This is 18 months off,” Brennan said. “It’s a long time. Do you guys have a finish date for construction yet?”
A representative from Banging Gavel said that because of the pandemic, financing had been stalled. However, a beer garden would allow the business to be able to generate some revenue to keep things moving.
Earlier in the meeting, the trustees also approved a nonexclusive license agreement for the 80th Avenue Metra train station.
“The resolution for consideration will allow Harp 80th Ave Tenant, LLC, to license the available space at the 80th Avenue train station for five years,” Mueller said. “Highlights of the license agreement are as follows: [the] first three months are free, and then a base monthly license fee of $1,500 plus a percentage of gross sales equal to 2.5% a year.”
Mueller said the business plans to provide services to commuters such as coffee, breakfast and lunch items.
“In addition, they will host private and public events throughout the year,” Mueller said.
