TINLEY PARK, IL — It has been 365 days since Tinley Park and other suburban residents gathered to save Frosted Donuts from closing its doors. On Friday, owner Feda Ibrahim decided to give back to the community by celebrating its residents, along with other local businesses in town.

Frosted, now located at 17119 88th Ave., Tinley Park, reopened in September 2020 and sold out its first day on the other side of town. Residents from Tinley Park and surrounding communities gathered to support the doughnut shop, after a Facebook post in March asked people to head over there and save the business from folding.

"Frosted Donuts on Harlem and 159th is in serious threat of closing and is an amazing establishment," Facebook user, Michael Praski, wrote in a public post. "The owner is the sweetest woman and I would hate to see her lose her establishment and passion for making unbelievable donuts."

The move of the business and support of the community was so special to Ibrahim, a 17-year resident of Tinley Park, that she decided March 5 would be a day Frosted celebrates the Tinley Park community, its small businesses and give back.

On Friday morning at 6 a.m., a line of loyal customers stood outside Frosted's front door to celebrate with Ibrahim. The owner said within the first hour, they had already served over 60 customers and gave out the first 20 gifts.

"We're really excited to celebrate with everybody today," Ibrahim said. "[This day] means celebrating what my customers and this community has made Frosted Donuts today."

The owner said gift cards and gift certificates from local businesses in Tinley Park — from pedicures, food, desserts, coffee and more — are being handed out to about 70 people, and more activities are planned as well. Ibrahim said the business will remain open until 7 p.m. Friday. As of 7 a.m., the business was still giving free pizza, gift cards to local businesses and all customers were entered into a raffle for additional prizes.

Frosted has been in business for three years and serves doughnuts that are made from scratch, in-house every day. The donuts range from classic styles like chocolate glazed and old-fashioned, to gourmet options, such as cocoa puffs, cinnamon toast crunch and banana cream. The shop also sells fresh Peet's coffee, every day.
