Good Samaritan Finds, Returns $400 Lost By Tinley Girl
"This is a testament to our town," a mother said after a stranger turned the money, intended to pay for horse camp.
TINLEY PARK, IL — The people of Tinley Park have done it again. Whether it's helping out after fires that displace families or quick thinking, life-saving actions in moments that cause many to freeze, there is one saying that many residents believe in: "Tinley Park is good people."
On Monday, a Tinley Park resident took to a community Facebook group asking residents for help. Beth Ruth said her daughters were heading to horse camp with their grandfather. An envelope carrying $400 was held by her youngest daughter. The envelope had opened, and the money had fallen out.
Once Ruth heard the money was gone, she took to Facebook asking if anyone who is near the Parkside area of the village has seen "random $100 bills." In the post, Ruth said she knew asking was "a long shot," adding that she knows "that the people of Tinley Park are good-hearted."

"Needless to say, we are out $400 for their camp. Like most folks — we don’t just have money laying around in that amount, and it took time to save," Ruth said. " ... I’m just hoping if you find the money you do the right thing— I don’t think to many people are losing $100 bills."
Shortly after, responses began to flood in. Some residents said if the money isn't found, they will contribute to helping raise it back. Others had no doubt that if the money was found, it would be returned.

Within an hour of the post, Ruth updated residents with great news — someone had found the cash.
"Seriously - I could cry. I’ve already been contacted. Someone found the money," Ruth said. "What are the chances, I don’t even know, but I’m so thankful that the odds were on our side. $400 bills folded in the area where lost. This is a testament to our town."
When one resident asked if the money was really "found" or if someone had generously gifted it to the family, Ruth said the bills had "the crease mark in it" that she had seen earlier in the day.
"I truly believe that there are angels among us and that most people do the right thing," Ruth said. "Unfortunately, we usually only hear about the bad! So happy for this positive outcome!"
