How Much Tax Revenue Does Illinois Collect from Undocumented Immigrants?

Report details which states collect the most in state and local taxes from undocumented immigrants.

Undocumented immigrants living in the United States contribute more than $11 billion in state and local taxes each year, according to a report by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy.

The report provides state-by-state estimates on the current state and local tax contributions of the nation's 11 million undocumented immigrants as of 2013.

Nationwide, undocumented immigrants paid roughly $1.1 billion in personal income taxes and $3.6 billion in property taxes. Nearly 60 percent, or $6.9 billion, of total tax contributions came from sales and excise taxes.

Illinois collects the fourth-most in state and local taxes from undocumented immigrants behind California, $3.17 billion; Texas, $1.5 billion; and New York, $1.1 billion.
