I-57 Southbound Blocked: Major Backup After Car Fire Near Vollmer Road Exit

UPDATE: Southbound traffic backed up all the way to the Dan Ryan Expressway Friday evening.

TINLEY PARK, IL — An accident on southbound Interstate 57 just south of the Interstate 80 interchange near Vollmer Road blocked all lanes early Friday evening. A vehicle caught fire, forcing police to close the interstate. As of 5 p.m., the fire was out and the vehicle was being loaded on a flatbed truck.

Meanwhile, motorists were detouring off the interstate and onto Vollmer Road.

Another accident reportedly took place on I-80 near the I-57 exit, forcing three vehicles onto the shoulder Friday evening.
