Christmas Party Shooting: Angry Boyfriend Opens Fire: Police

After he was asked to leave, the man returned and shot one of his girlfriend's relatives around 9 p.m. Saturday.

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL — A man was taken into custody Saturday evening after allegedly shooting a member of his girlfriend's family at a Christmas party in South Holland.

Officers were called about 9 p.m. to a report of a person shot at a home in the 17000 block of Parkside Avenue, Chicago Sun-Times reports.

An argument broke out between a man and woman believed to be boyfriend and girlfriend, according to the report.

The 44-year-old man left the party at the family's request, but then returned later. He began to argue with several family members in the front yard, then pulled out a gun and shot a 35-year-old man in the abdomen.

People at the scene took the gun from the man and restrained him until police arrived. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A weapon was recovered from the scene. South Holland police and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services Unit are investigating.
