According to a press release issued by the police department, officers arrived at the Shell gas station, located at 19100 S. LaGrange Road, at approximately 5:19 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim was approached by a black, male subject — approximately 5-foot-3 and described as being in his teens and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray pants — after the victim finished pumping gas into his or her vehicle. The suspect asked for the victim’s keys to the vehicle while holding a hammer. A second suspect — also described as a black male — entered the front passenger seat of the victim’s vehicle.

The victim ran from the scene, ultimately asking nearby patrons of the gas station to call 911.
“Both suspects then entered the vehicle they arrived in — a silver Mazda SUV bearing Kentucky registration 909ZVZ — and fled southbound [on] LaGrange Road,” the police release stated. “It was also learned that the suspects’ vehicle had been reported [as being] stolen out of Chicago.”
Police also noted that a prior attempted vehicular hijacking took place minutes before the Shell station incident at a Chipotle located nearby at 19130 S. LaGrange Road.
The Mokena Police Department is asking anyone with additional information about these incidents to call 708-479-3912.
