The State's Top 10 Biggest Layoff Notices in 2015
These companies issued the biggest layoff notices in Illinois last year, according to an analysis of monthly WARN reports.

More than 16,500 workers in Illinois were affected by layoff notices in 2015, according to an analysis of all monthly Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, reports.
Under the 2004 Illinois WARN Act, employers with 75 or more full-time workers are required to notify the state 60 days in advance of any impending layoffs and company closures. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity each month publishes these statistics, which include the number of employees affected and when layoffs are expected to begin and end. In addition, employers must disclose the type of event, such as whether the business is closing, conducting layoffs or mass layoffs, and if these events are permanent or temporary. The reason for layoffs or closures also is included, but not always provided.
While information provided by employers can change month-to-month, particularly in regard to layoff schedules and the number of workers affected, the release of December’s WARN report offers a complete look at all the layoff notices issued by “business enterprises” last year.
