Suspicious Odor Shuts Down Oak Park Avenue Friday Night

Tinley Park police and fire shut down Oak Park Avenue at 171st Street Friday night as they searched for the source of a suspicious odor.

TINLEY PARK, IL — The intersection of Oak Park Avenue and 171st Street in Tinley Park was closed for several hours Friday night as police officers and firefighters looked for the source of a suspicious odor.

Firefighters walked up and down Oak Park Avenue and police cars with flashing lights drove up and down the street near the intersection between 7 and 11 p.m. as traffic was redirected away from the cross streets.

At about 10 p.m., the village notified residents via an automated telephone call that emergency personnel were investigating a gas odor along the street.

Residents in the area told Patch they could smell a gas or kerosene odor near the intersection.
