TINLEY PARK, IL — The Tinley Park Public Library wants to help residents stay home for the holidays. With the holidays looking drastically different this year, the Library is providing ways to access its services and make staying home for the holidays more accessible.

"Whether you’re looking for last minute gifts, something new to read, or just want to get library materials conveniently and safely, the library is here for you," the library stated in a news release.

The library said if you're looking for a last minute gift for family or friends, Consumer Reports is a good route to take. "[It's] a great place to get unbiased advice, ratings, and reviews. It’s free for Tinley Park Public Library cardholders to use."

If you're looking to get a book for a loved one this holiday season, the library recommends using NoveList, which is a free resource with recommendations by age and genre.

The library has also been trying to step up its book recommendation services during the pandemic. Adults with a Tinley Park Public Library card can now submit an online request to get recommendations from librarians. Readers can also use the library’s "Browsing Bundles"service to be surprised with three to five handpicked books and movies on popular themes and subjects.

"Library staff are dedicated to making it convenient and safe for you to get books, music, movies, and more. The library has launched several services to access materials without setting foot in the library," the release states. "Tinley Park Public Library cardholders can place holds on materials through the catalog, and schedule curbside pickup once they are available. Learn more about curbside pickup and how to schedule your appointment at tplibrary.me/curbside."

The library’s Outreach Services Department is also scheduling deliveries and pickups at senior communities, to provide personalized reading selections and deliveries to patrons who are permanently home bound, according to the library. A new home delivery service has been added for pre-approved patrons with transportation or mobility issues who can’t pick up their holds. You can contact Outreach Services at 708-532-0160, for more information.

Library staff said they hope you will take time to enjoy a holiday movie with your loved ones. The Kanopy and hoopla apps are available on most smartphones, tablets, streaming media players (i.e. Roku, AppleTV, etc.) and smart TVs. Hoopla also offers a selection of holiday music without ads, according to the library.

"However you may be celebrating this year, stay safe and stay merry, and remember that the library is always here for you," the library said.
