Tinley Park Will Participate In Statewide Tornado Drill

That sound you hear Tuesday morning is the village testing its outdoor sirens.

TINLEY PARK, IL — With the first day of spring — March 20 — right around the corner, the village will be participating in a statewide tornado drill this week. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency's drill will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, and the village will sound its outdoor tornado warning sirens as part of the test.

Tinley Park has 13 warning sirens throughout the village, and they alert residents about severe weather and other public emergencies. Besides the statewide drill, the village routinely tests its sirens the first Tuesday of every month.

Along with the outdoor sirens, a tornado warning will be broadcast on NOAA Weather Radio, and many commercial TV and radio stations will broadcast a test alert.
