Tinley Police Warn of Ruse Burglar Targeting the Elderly

One incident occurred Jan. 6. The suspect claimed to be with a landscaping company before scamming his way into a home and stealing cash.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park police are reminding residents to be vigilant after a report of a ruse burglar preying on a local senior citizen.

On Friday, January 6, a senior citizen in the 16800 block of Oketo received a visitor who said "he was sent by the victim’s son to discuss landscaping options." The victim let the subject into the home. Police said the suspect then "made small talk while searching the house."

The subject left the house and the victim noted he was missing some cash, said Tinley Park Police Chief Steve Neubauer. The victim was not harmed in any way. The intruder is described as a white male, about 5-foot-10 and possibly in his 30’s.

Residents are reminded not to let uninvited people into their home. Call 9-1-1 to report any suspicious people or activity.
