Top 10 Most Common Crimes Committed by Illinois' Inmates
These 10 types of offenses account for 82 percent of the state's prison population, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

In 2015, the Illinois Department of Corrections housed more than 45,000 inmates in 25 correctional facilities throughout the state.
State law designates felonies, except for first-degree murder, by class, which ranges from Class 1 to Class 4. Then there’s Class X, the most serious felony offense in Illinois. Those serving sentences for Class X felonies account for 26.8 percent of the state’s prison population, up from 25.4 percent in 2014, according to the Department of Corrections’ annual report for fiscal year 2015.
The report, published in June, includes various breakdowns of the prison population, one of which is by offense category. There are a total of 28 broad categories, including robbery, burglary, homicide, weapons and assaultive.

According to the report, these are the Top 10 most common types of crimes committed by Illinois' inmates, accounting for about 82 percent of the prison population as of June 30, 2015.
