Top 25 Counties With the Highest Percentage of Bridges in Poor Shape

There are almost 27,000 bridges in Illinois, but thousands are in bad shape. Does your county top the list with the most deficient bridges?

Data from the Federal Highway Administration show 8 percent of the 27,000 bridges across Illinois are considered "structurally deficient" while another 7 percent are "functionally obsolete," meaning those bridges either have major parts in poor condition or are out-of-date.

Our state ranks No. 7 for most structurally deficient bridges and 27th based on percentage of deficient bridges to overall inventory, according to a recent report by American Road & Transportation Builders Association.

Using this data, we sorted out the Top 25 counties with the most bridges in bad shape, as well as the Top 10 most traveled and structurally deficient bridges in Illinois.
