Tornado Touchdown Confirmed in Frankfort

A tornado was spotted Friday evening at Green Garden Road and Harlem Avenue in Frankfort, NBC reports. The tornado touched down at 4:50 p.m., according to spotters. Sirens were triggered in Frankfort and Tinley Park, possibly other towns nearby. A tornado warning for parts of Will and Cook counties expired at 5:15 p.m. A flash-flood warning is now in effect until 11:30 p.m.

Traffic is slow-going on Interstate 294 and Interstate 57 heading into the south suburbs. The Metra Electric Line into the region was halted for a while as the storm passed through during the tornado watch period.
