Village Again Participating in ‘Safe Ride Home’ Program

Tinley Park one of several communities to provide free rides home from establishments on New Year's Eve.

TINLEY PARK, IL — The Village of Tinley Park has again joined forces with Orland Park, Palos Heights, Mokena and New Lenox for the Safe Ride Home program, which helps to reduce the number of drunk drivers traveling the roads on New Year’s Eve.

Via Limo will provide free rides home from establishments within the participating towns from midnight to 4 a.m. Sunday, Jan 1. Drivers will transport revelers home and not to other establishments. Revelers can call Via Limo at (708) 349-7700 to arrange for a ride during the designated hours and must mention the Safe Ride Home program when they call.

“The Safe Ride Home program has resulted in hundreds of residents getting home safely after their New Year’s Eve celebrations,” Tinley Park Mayor David G. Seaman said. “It’s a great program. We’re proud that all of our area municipalities have been able to work together to keep the roads safer.”

The program is funded by each of the participating municipalities and with a grant from the Michael P. Gordon Foundation, named in honor of a 30-year-old Chicago police officer who was killed by a drunk driver in 2004.

“To make sure everyone has a happy and safe New Year’s Eve celebration, we strongly encourage those who are too drunk to drive to call for a free ride instead of getting behind the wheel,” said Trustee T.J. Grady, Chairman of the Village’s Public Safety Committee.
