Weather Could Postpone Graduation: Kirby School District 140

TINLEY PARK, IL — Kirby School District 140 announced there is a possibility the 8th grade graduation for district schools may be postponed due to weather.

Currently, D140's eighth grade graduation ceremonies will take place on Andrew High School's football field — located at 9001 W. 171st St. — Tuesday, June 8, with a rain date on Wednesday, June 9. Prairie View's ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m., and Grissom's will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Nothing is confirmed as of Monday afternoon, but for precautionary measures, the district shared that the planned rain date may be used after all. Tinley Park's Tuesday forecast shows an 80 percent chance of rain, with a high of 85 and a low of 69 degrees. Wind gusts up to 12 mph are projected to appear.

"We are watching the weather forecast very closely," the district announced. "A decision will be made about hosting graduation sometime [Tuesday] afternoon. Families will receive a phone call, an email and a text message regarding any change to the ceremony."

The district said postponing doesn't necessarily mean canceling all ceremonies for the day, unless the weather determines it has to happen. For example, Prairie View may have its 5:30 p.m. ceremony, but the district may still postpone Grissom's 7:30 p.m. ceremony due to weather.

The district said if this scenario becomes a reality, the ceremony will be rescheduled for Wednesday, but the time the ceremony is hosted will depend upon weather conditions and may not take place at the same scheduled time.

According to the announcement, each graduate received six tickets and two parking passes. Graduates do not need their own ticket. The ceremony will be live-streamed and can be viewed as follows:
