2 Chicago-Area Chuck E. Cheese Locations To Close
SEC Entertainment announced Thursday it has rejected leases for Chuck E. Cheese locations in Vernon Hills and Chicago-Matteson.
VERNON HILLS, IL — Two Chicago-area Chuck E. Cheese locations are among 34 across the U.S. that are slated to close permanently, the USA Today reports. CEC Entertainment, the parent company of the venue, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection late Wednesday and then filed a list of about 45 leases it plans to reject on Thursday, which included a list of 11 locations that had already closed.
The two Chicago Chuck E. Cheese's that made the closure list are in Vernon Hills and Chicago-Matteson.
The company lost 90 percent of its revenue after temporarily closing its doors due to COVID-19 even after trying to ramp up food delivery and takeout, according to USA Today. Court filings show the SEC Entertainment also got behind on its rent at hundreds of its location.
