6 Homes Burglarized, Vernon Hills Police Release Suspect Photos
The home burglaries were reported in the early morning hours of Sunday morning.

VERNON HILLS, IL — Police released images of a suspect in a series of home burglaries that took place Sunday. During the early morning hours, six homes in three Vernon Hills subdivisions were burglarized, police said. In each case, investigators believe the home was entered through an unlocked door.
Three burglaries took place in the Stone Fence Farm subdivision, two at Centennial Crossing and one in the Hawthorn Club subdivision, police said. In five of the six instances a sliding door was left unlocked, and in the other a burglar was thought to have gotten in through a service door to the garage.
Residents at home during the burglaries remained asleep, and no one was hurt or confronted by any intruder, according to Vernon Hills police spokesman Kim Christenson. Purses, wallets and other personal items near the doors were reported stolen.

Investigators obtained a surveillance video of a man trying to open a locked door in the rear of a home in the Centennial Crossing subdivision on the night of the burglaries. Christenson said the video shows a man described as a 25 to 30-year-old light-skinned black or Hispanic man wearing a light colored jacket, a beanie with a brim and possibly hiking boots.
Police asked the public to be diligent about checking doors and windows are locked before going to bed and suggested using exterior lighting at doors. Anyone with information about the suspect or the burglaries was asked to contact the Vernon Hills Police Department at 847-247-4883.
