VERNON HILLS, IL — A brother and sister are in custody for an aggravated assault that occurred in Vernon Hills earlier this month. Ulises L. Jacobo, 20, is accused of arming himself with a handgun and then heading to a home in the 300 block of Plumwood Court on Sept 17.

Jacobo was searching for his ex-girlfriend at the time who he believed was visiting a person at the Plumwood Court home, police said. His sister, Guadalupe B. Jacobo, 18, joined him.

Authorities were called to the scene at about 8:45 a.m. that day after a resident reported the sound of a gunshot in the area. A preliminary investigation revealed a shot was fired into an unoccupied, parked vehicle, according to a news release from the Vernon Hills Police Department.

Before authorities arrived, the resident allegedly saw Ulises Jacob, of the 3500 block of Mary Avenue in Park City, standing near the resident's car, holding a handgun. A female was using a bat to hit the resident's car, police said.

The duo fled in a vehicle with two female passengers and a male driver, authorities said.

"It was reported that suspect Jacobo was in the area looking for his ex-girlfriend who was believed to be visiting the resident," police said.

An arrest warrant was issued for Jacob on Sept 18 on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, mob action and criminal damage to property, authorities said. He turned himself into the Lake County Jail on Sept. 23 and remains in custody on a $500,000 bail.

His sister, also of the 3500 block of Mary Avenue, met with investigators on Sept. 20. She was charged with criminal damage to property and was turned over to the Lake County Jail, according to a news release.

Her bail was set at $30,000, which she posted that day, according to authorities.

More charges are expected in the case as additional arrest warrants have been obtained, police said Thursday. The assault remains under investigation.
