Fast Facts: Brunson and the Patriots have one more test to pass before trying to win an elusive state title, winning the North Suburban Conference championship game. They have reached the state tournament the past two years. Top-ranked Stevenson is coming off a loss to No. 2 Simeon on Saturday. Simeon, in turn, lost the Chicago Public League title on Sunday to Bogan. The Patriots are trying to avoid that fate against a senior-laden Vernon Hills team on Wednesday. Brunson, a Villanova recruit, was recently named a McDonald’s All-American. He and his father Rick became the fifth father/son duo to earn that honor. Brunson also earned a gold-medal winner with the USA Basketball U18 team. Cashaw, a Rice recruit, is among the state’s top players in his own right. Vernon Hills, a Class 3A team, has been waiting for this challenge. Fearless guard Nardini (22 PPG) leads the way. He is slated to play Division III hoops at Wisconsin-Stevens Point next year. Levin is the team’s captain. Turner patrols the paint. The Ball State volleyball recruit averages three blocked shots per game. Manso leads the team in assists despite playing forward. Rattner comes off the bench as a three-point gunner threat.
