Cop on a Rooftop Planned for Vernon Hills

Local officers will take part in the fundraiser to benefit Illinois Special Olympics on May 17.

From Vernon Hills PD: On Friday, May 17, 2019, from 5:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m., patrons of the Dunkin’ Donuts at the Hawthorn Hills Shopping Center at Routes 60 & 21 will be greeted by Vernon Hills Police officers waving from the roof in order to raise money and awareness for a great cause. It’s all part of the 17th annual Cop on Rooftop event to raise money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Those donating money for the cause will receive a coupon for a free doughnut. This is the 12th year for the “Cop on Rooftop” event in Vernon Hills which has raised over $18,200.00 in the last eleven years. In 2018, 310 locations statewide raised more than $871,000.00. This is the second of three main efforts by the Department to raise money for the Special Olympics. On March 10, 2019, even though the event was canceled due to high winds, a half-dozen or so brave VHPD representatives raised $1,200.00 and were prepared to take the Polar Plunge. The third event takes place on June 2nd, when Department members will run a three-mile leg through Vernon Hills in the Torch Run for the Special Olympics.

“The members of the Vernon Hills Police Department hope to see you at our Cop onRooftop event,” said Officer Courtney Blaul, event coordinator. “Stop by, say hello and help support a great cause.” For additional information contact Officer Blaul at 847-362-4449.
