Dad Arrested for Concealing Sex Offender Son: Police

Police also arrested the 31-year-old son wanted on child porn charges and failure to appear in connection with a sex abuse case.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL -- A wanted sex offender who had been avoiding arrest by staying at his father's home in Crystal Lake has been arrested, police said. The Lake County Sheriff's Office also took into custody the dad, Edward A. Redmond, 68, for obstructing service of process after they learned his son, John A. Redmond, 31, had been staying at his father's home in the 300 block of Valhalla Circle and spotted him leaving the residence on Friday. Authorities followed John A. Redmond to his worksite in Fremont Township, where the Lake County Sheriff's Office warrants team and the U.S. Marshals Service-Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Force according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

He is being held at the Lake County Jail on a $500,000 bail, police said Saturday.

John Redmond, a registered sex offender, was wanted for failing to appear in court in a criminal sex abuse case, which stemmed from a 2013 Vernon Hills police investigation, according to a news release. He was also wanted on child pornography charges from a 2016 Mundelein police investigation.

Redmond was posted to the Lake County Sheriff's Office's Most Wanted list. Anonymous sources shared information about his possible location, which included the location of Redmond's job in the 26200 block of Elmwood Lane in Fremont Township, and the also lead police to his father's house, police said.

Edward Redmond has since been released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond.

Both men are due back in court on Jan. 29, with Edward's hearing set for 9 a.m. and his son's hearing set for 1:30 p.m., according to authorities.
