Hawthorn 2.0: Developers Break Ground On 303 Apartments
In the mixed-use community, retail and residential are "seamlessly and masterfully intertwined," the CEO of Atlantic Residential said.

VERNON HILLS, IL — Stakeholders and officials last week broke ground on the future home of more than 300 Vernon Hills residents in the residential portion of the reimagined Hawthorn Mall mixed-use community.
The luxury ‘Hawthorn 2.0’ apartments will come complete with high-end finishes and appliances, a concierge, a pool and spa area and a fitness center, developers said in a news release. They are expected to be open for move-in in August 2022.
All told, Hawthorn 2.0 will include 303 luxury apartments, 55,000 square feet of retail space and an open-air plaza designed to host community gatherings and events.

Tim Anderson, CEO of Focus — one of the project's developers — said the property is designed with residents in mind.
"It’s easy to build something new, but it’s so much more important to build something impactful," Anderson said in a statement. "This residential complex will be the cornerstone of Hawthorn 2.0, combining both form and function in an exciting and innovative way.”

Developers last year completed Hawthorn's center park, which converted a central courtyard into an indoor park, said Steven Levin, CEO of Centennial, the company that owns the mall.
"And today, we’re stepping up to bat and committing hundreds of millions of dollars to this community’s future," Levin said.
