Lake County Coronavirus: Scammers Posing As Healthcare Workers

Lake County officials said scammers are posing as healthcare workers or companies and claim to offer coronavirus testing.

LAKE COUNTY, IL—Scammers are making phone calls and posing as healthcare workers or companies offering COVID-19 tests, according to the Lake County State's Attorney's Office.

In many cases, Lake County officials say these scammers claim they can either obtain tests for people or can get test results to people quicker.

As part of the scam, the person is asked to pay in cash or hand over personal identifying information in exchange for the test. However, county officials say don't fall for it.

The Lake County Health Department, Illinois Department of Public Health, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will never send an employee to the home of a person to sell a COVID-19 test, officials warned.

Officials said testing parameters remain in place and should be arranged through a healthcare provider.
