Macy’s Calls For Addition Of Businesses In Parking Lot
The move is meant to draw more traffic into the store at Hawthorn Mall.

VERNON HILLS, IL -- The Vernon Hills village board is asking Macy’s representatives to take a second look at a proposal to add four buildings to its property outside Hawthorn Mall, the Daily Herald reports. Village officials say the current plan, which calls for the addition of two stand-alone restaurants and two multi-tenant buildings, is too crowded. The initial proposal called for the repurposing of about six acres of parking space outside the retailer and subdividing that into four outlots along Townline Road, according to the article.
Village officials this past week said four buildings was too crowded and asked Brookfield Properties, which has a strategic alliance with Macy’s to develop the Vernon Hills’ property, to scale the plan back, the Daily Herald reports. Brookfield representatives say they will look at instead adding three buildings.
And why does Brookfield Properties, which is based in New York, want to bring in more businesses outside of Macy’s?
