Argument In Vernon Hills Leads To Shot Fired: Police

Police believe there is no immediate threat to the community as of Tuesday afternoon, and will continue investigating in the area.

VERNON HILLS, IL — Vernon Hills police were called at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday to the Westwood subdivision in the area of Route 45 and Butterfield Road for a report of a possible gunshot at or near a home, according to a release from the Vernon Hills Police Department. Police said early investigation shows an argument between non-residents resulted in one shot fired from a handgun into a parked car, while no one was inside it. According to the release, Police are investigating the isolated incident, and said there's no immediate threat to community members.

When police got to the area Tuesday morning, the offenders were gone, according to the release. A temporary "soft" lock down of area day cares and schools was suggested, but was lifted around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday morning as a result of the police investigation.

Police are also following up on other leads regarding possible suspects.
