Thieves Smash Jewelry Cases, Flee With Diamonds: Police

The three men stole the jewelry from a Jared store Friday night.

VERNON HILLS, IL – A group of brazen robbers smashed a glass jewelry case at a Jared store in Vernon Hills Friday night and fled with a stash of diamonds, police said. The three men, who were all wearing black, entered the store at 567 Townline Road just before closing at 9 p.m. They used hammers to smash the cases and fled with the jewels, CBS Chicago reports.

Police said they didn’t know the total value of the diamonds stolen.

Witnesses said the thieves fled in a gray minivan, according to ABC 7. The van may have been a Chrysler or Dodge.

No one was injured in the robbery.

The Jared jewelry store is located immediately across from the Hawthorne Mall in Vernon Hills.
