Toys R Us Closing Vernon Hills Store

The company announced Wednesday that it will be closing seven Illinois stores, including the one in Vernon Hills.

VERNON HILLS, IL — The Toys R Us store in Vernon Hills is one of seven locations in Illinois the national company has on its closure list. The store at 295 Center Drive is likely to begin a going-out-of-business sale in February, with a permanent closure expected to come no later than April.

The Vernon Hills store joins other Illinois locations in Burbank, Schaumburg, Highland Park, Matteson, Bricktown and Niles as ones that will close in the coming months. All of the company's surviving stores will be combined into Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores.

Nationwide, Toys R Us plans to close a total of 182 stores. That amounts to about 20 percent of its stores in the country. Documents have been filed in a Virginia bankruptcy court, with the court having to give final approval to the closure plan.
