Two men charged for ATM scam in Vernon Hills

Devices were used to gather information from bank cards

Two California men have been charged with stealing information from a Vernon Hills ATM, according to the Vernon Hills Review.

Police believe that Catalin Popescu, 25, and Ioan Dorin Chiforescu, 30, both from Anaheim, California, used devices that gathered information from bank cards and an ATM keypad. The crimes occurred at a Vernon Hills MB Financial Bank in late October and early November.

The men are scheduled to appear in court on November 30. The men have been charged, but this is not a finding of guilt.

Kim Christenson, from the Vernon Hills police, said people should be careful when using ATMs. They should be observant of their surroundings, cover the keypad and look for suspicious equipment.
