The team had never advanced this far

The Vernon Hills High School football team lost to Peoria on Saturday, according to the Daily Herald. The final score was 62 to 48. This was the first time the Vernon Hills Cougars advanced past the state semi-finals in their 5A division.

The championship game was played out in Champaign's Memorial Stadium. Cougars coach Bill Bellecomo joked that the Vernon Hills coaching staff had used everything in their playbook.
