Vernon Hills Standoff: Drunk Man Chased By Mom, Police Say
The standoff in Vernon Hills ended after 3.5 hours Friday night. The man was taken to Condell Medical Center.

VERNON HILLS, IL – A man was taken to the hospital following a 3.5-hour standoff in Vernon Hills on Friday night, police said. The Vernon Hills Police Department was called to a home in the 300 block of Tally Ho Drive at about 7 p.m. for a report of a subject yelling at neighbors and possibly holding a stick. Police also learned the man had been running down the street while being chased by his mom, according to a news release from Vernon Hills police.
When officers arrived, they learned the man was inside his home. A relative told police he was intoxicated. Police entered the residence to talk to the man and found, what appeared to be, blood throughout the home, according to authorities.
Police said the uncooperative man ran out of the home and when they approached him outside, he ran back into his home. While speaking to officers through a bedroom door, the man made threatening statements to police and claimed to be holding a knife and have a gun. Police could also hear objects being thrown about the room, according to the news release.

The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) was called out and uniformed officers from numerous agencies arrived to assist with traffic control and securing the area.
At about 10:30 p.m., NIPAS officers took the man into custody inside the residence. No police officers were injured during the standoff.

The man was immediately transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center for examination. An investigation is continuing and as of Saturday afternoon, no charges had been filed.
