The Western Springs Historical Society's House Walk was Sunday, May 19, and this week we'll be featuring one of the homes each day. The event put the spotlight on local homes that are "historic or soon-to-be historic." Local businesses helped create the tablescapes and flowers throughout the homes, which were showcased by many volunteers.
Today we feature the Hamor house at 5041 Woodland.
This classic two-story brick home, originally built in 1955 as a ranch, was completely redesigned in 2011. Purchased in 1997 by Doug and Maureen Hamor, it's been in the family since it was built by Doug's aunt and uncle. This home was the gathering place for many family reunions when Dough was growing up.

The home's entry features a light-filled two-story foyer leading to the dining room, which was once the living room. It still includes the original fireplace and has since added a bay seating area and a jute chandelier. The dining room opens to the kitchen with a tailor-made island. And that leads to the family room, which has large windows to bring it lots of light.
On the other side of the entryway is the master bedroom on the first floor, which has a bathroom in the suite.

There are three more bedrooms upstairs, as well as a large and comfortable family room, a space that could later function as a master suite. The room has lots of memorabilia, none more notable than a chair that was given to Doug's grandmother by President Warren Harding, where she worked as a house caretaker in Marion, OH.
