Broadview Searches for New Top Cop
Broadview Police Chief Kevin Eugling is retiring from the force after 30-years.

(Broadview, IL) – After serving 30-years in the Village of Broadview Police Department, Police Chief Kevin Eugling is retiring from the force, kicking off a search for a successor to run the 37-officer department.
“For 30-years, Chief Eugling has served the Broadview Police Department with honor, distinction, and professionalism,” said Mayor Katrina Thompson. “I want to thank him personally for his commitment to helping to create a safe and welcoming community for all residents.”
Eugling, who was born in Broadview and who became chief in 2017, had previously served in multiple roles within the department, including street patrol officer, investigator, youth officer, sergeant and commander of the BPD Operations Division.

“Serving as the police chief of my home town has been an honor of a lifetime,” said Chief Eugling. “It has also been my good fortune to serve over the years alongside hundreds of other police officers who brought professionalism and integrity to their work of protecting the residents of this community.”
For the next Broadview police chief, Thompson is looking for someone who will bring “progressive leadership” and who is open to “new ideas.”

“The next police chief will need to provide progressive leadership, be receptive to new ideas and collaborate closely with neighboring police departments,” said Thompson. “The Broadview Police Department has an excellent relationship with the community and the new police chief will be expected to maintain and advance that relationship.”
Thompson also noted that a “top priority” for Broadview’s next top cop will be helping to develop a strategy to address “racial inequities” in a community of 7,618 residents – of which 76.6% are African-Americans and 8.9% Hispanic – that saw 39,720 calls placed to its police department in 2020.
“Supporting Broadview’s initiative to achieve greater engagement with the community’s diverse population will be a key task of the next chief,” said Thompson. “Initiatives to address racial inequities and to engage the community are a top priority, and the next chief will need to develop a strategy for the department to support those initiatives.”
The starting salary for the Broadview police chief is $135,000.
Applications are due June 30, 2021.
