Laced Brownies Send High School Students To Hospital

At least 5 students at Roberto Clemente Community Academy became ill after eating brownies laced with an uknown substance, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — Five students at a Near West Side high school were hospitalized Friday afternoon after eating laced brownies at lunch, according to CBS 2 Chicago. Roberto Clemente Community Academy in the Ukraine Village neighborhood was put on soft lockdown while Chicago firefighters searched the facility for anyone else who might have been ill, the report added.

A statement from Chicago Public Schools said school officials called 911 after "a small group of students may have ingested an unknown substance." Chicago police said students started becoming sick around noon Friday, Oct. 13, when they ate brownies laced with marijuana or something more potent, CBS 2 reports.

Most of the students were taken to Norwegian American Hospital, and at least one was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, the report stated. CPS officials and Area Central detectives are investigating the matter No one had been taken into custody as of Friday afternoon.
