Chicago Bomb-Sniffing Dog Retires: Lacy Was 1st TSA-Certified K9

Lacy screened more than a million passengers at O'Hare and Midway over the years.

CHICAGO, IL — A trained explosive-detection dog who spent about seven years screening passengers at Midway and O'Hare airports retired Tuesday. Lacy spent her entire career at both airports, and it's estimated that she screened more than one million passengers, officials said. The 9-year-old dog completed her last shift at Midway on Tuesday and was given a certificate of appreciation.

Lacy graduated from TSA's inaugural class after finishing an intensive training course at Auburn University in 2011, the TSA said.

Lacy's trainer, Diana Kremer, is adopting the dog. Kremer said that Lacy is "the best partner you can ask for." The hard-working pup will now get to stay home, relax, and hang out with Kremer's cat and another dog, the TSA said.
