Mother And 1-Year-Old Son Shot Through Apartment Window

Chicago police said it is not immediately clear if the family was targeted or not.

WEST SIDE, IL — A woman and her 1-year-old son were shot through the window of their South Austin apartment on Tuesday night, according to Chicago police. Officials said the young boy suffered a gunshot wound to each leg.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired on the 5200 block of West Congress Parkway at around 11:45 p.m. There, a 30-year-old woman and her son were taken to Stroger Hospital where the infant is in stable condition and the mother is in good condition, according to authorities.

It was not immediately clear if the bullets that injured the family were stray bullets or if the pair was targeted.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday afternoon, according to a media notification from Chicago police.
