West Side 'Gun Turn In' Postponed After Officers' Deaths

The Chicago Police Department has postponed Saturday's gun turn-in until the new year.

CHICAGO — A gun turn-in that was scheduled to be hosted on the West Side this Saturday has been canceled, the 15th District station announced. Officers were slated to accept guns at the Friendship Baptist Church in the Austin neighborhood; however the event will now be bumped until the new year, police said.

"In order to honor and memorialize our Fallen Officers, we are postponing the Gun Turn In scheduled for this Saturday, December 22," the 15th District station said in a tweet. "Sorry for any inconvenience, we will be rescheduling for early 2019."

CPD officers Eduardo Marmolejo, 37, and Conrad Gary, 31, were investigating shots fired on the Far South Side earlier this week at the commuter tracks near 103rd Street and Cottage Grove, when they were struck and killed by a train.
