Affordable Housing Units Planned in Wilmette

A three-story building could replace the American Legion building on Wilmette Avenue.

The first affordable housing units in Wilmette in nearly a decade are in the proposal stage.

The Housing Opportunity Development Corporation had submitted its plan to build a three-story apartment with 20 affordable priced units at the former site of the Wilmette American Legion post to the village’s plan commission, according to the Wilmette Life.

Richard Koenig, executive director of HODC, said last week the plan is to construct a building with 10 studio and 10 one-bedroom apartments on the second and third floors. A ground floor would include a community room, office space and open-air parking stalls.
