Lakefront Mansion Is Most Expensive Sale In Kenilworth In 4 Years
A Sheridan Road mansion built less than a decade ago Monday sold for $5.85 million, just $150,000 over its pre-construction 2005 sale price.
KENILWORTH, IL — A lakefront modernist home built in Kenilworth nearly a decade ago sold for $5.85 million as the village's most expensive home sale in nearly four years. The four-bedroom home on a 1.3 acre lot was listed in June and sold Monday via Midwest Real Estate Data's private listing network. The home features a unique deck overlooking the water, floor to ceiling windows throughout and is designed with the intention of employing "natural materials in their modern form" to "blend open interiors with a visual connection to the expansive grounds," according to its Realtor.com listing.
The concrete two-story contemporary design the provides views of the lake and hardwood flooring in many of its 11 rooms. It includes an elevator, a green roof, a detached two-car garage and a single interior fireplace.
The home was completed in 2009 and built by the architectural firm of Nagle Hartrey Architecture, which has built everything from homes in Highland Park to television and studios in Chicago. That same year, the the company was awarded the Chicago American Institute of Architects 2009 Firm of the Year award. (The 52-year-old firm merged with Sheehan Partners last June.) The grounds were created by landscape architect Diedre Toner, according to the listing.

"Most rooms command endless views of the ever-changing lakefront," it said, which describing the home as perfect for a "buyer who expects the extraordinary and is looking for a blissful retreat." The buyers were not immediately identifiable in public records.
According to Midwest Real Estate Data, the most expensive home on record to sell in Kenilworth was recorded in 2008, when a Devonshire Lane house on 2.2 acres sold for $9.7 million, Crain's Chicago Business reported. It said the last time a Kenilworth house topped the $6 million mark was the August 2014 sale of another home on Sheridan Road.

2nd Lakefront Home In 3 Weeks Sells For $12 Million »
Public records indicate the lakefront property purchased Aug. 6 had been owned by a trust in the name of Barbara Dyson, the late co-founder of Dyson, Dyson & Dunn, a private holding company based in Winnetka.

Records with the Cook County Recorder of Deeds show the property was purchased before the current house was built for $5.7 million in January 2005 – $150,000 below its 2018 sale price. Crain's estimated the cost of construction was likely well over a half-million dollars.

The home's most recent available tax bill shows nearly $123,000 in annual property tax payments in 2016. The Cook County assessor's office estimated in 2018 the main property is worth more than $5 million and an attached subdivided lot was worth another nearly $805,000.
