Lakefront Mansion Sold For $5.8 Million Relisted For $8.9 Million
The local luxury homebuilders who bought the most expensive Kenilworth home to change hands in years want to sell it for significantly more.
KENILWORTH, IL — A lakefront mansion in Kenilworth that sold earlier this month for $5.85 million returned to the market almost immediately. The Aug. 6 sale of the 1.35-acre property was the town's priciest in years when it was purchased by the owners of a North Shore-based luxury homebuilding company, according to public records. Three days later it was listed again asking for nearly $9 million.
Built in 2009 by an award-winning Chicago architecture firm, the Sheridan Road home represents a "great example of contemporary 21st century architecture," according to its new listing. The four-bedroom, nearly 4,000-square-foot home features high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, a screened porch and an elevator connecting three levels.

There's also a boathouse with room for a 24-foot boat, solar panels that provide enough power for about 30 percent of the home's electricity use and a deck extending out above Lake Michigan, its listing said.

New owners Leo and Milena Birov of Northfield-based Heritage Luxury Homes plan to add a pool, a four-car garage and an exercise room to the property, according to the listing.
Leo Birov has applied for a demolition permit on the home, Crain's Chicago Business reported. He said if no one is interested in buying an remodeled and expanded version of the current house, he will replace it with a larger mansion and list it for $12.9 million.

Realtor Milena Birov told the Chicago Tribune the 513 Sheridan Road property is the second largest lakefront property in Kenilworth and declined to rule out demolishing the house or subdividing the property.

The existing home had been built for Peter and Barbara Dyson, the late co-founders of a Winnetka-based private holding company.
Another lakefront property about a dozen houses to the south on Sheridan Road was purchased by the Birovs earlier this year for $4.4 million.
Heritage is waiting out a one-year delay imposed by the Village of Kenilworth before it receives final permission to tear down a 1959 French County-style home currently on the site, known as the Charles Olsen House at 233 Sheridan Road.
