10 Most Expensive 2018 Suburban Home Sales Were On North Shore
Six of the top 10 most expensive home sales in the Chicago region were North Shore lakefront properties.

WINNETKA, IL — All but one of the 2018's priciest suburban home purchases took place on Chicago's North Shore, as the only other property outside of the city to crack the $4 million mark was a record-setting residential sale in Kendall County.
Three out of every four homes sold for that amount last year were in the city, but six of the top 10 most expensive home sales of the year were deals for North Shore lakefront properties, according to research from Crain's Chicago Business.
Crain's ranked 73 of the highest-priced home sales of 2018 for Chicago and surrounding counties reported in public records or real estate listings as of Jan. 11. It found nearly two dozen of the top sales were at No. 9 Walton, where Chicago's most expensive residential property was purchased by its richest person the prior year.

Newer construction dominated last year's high-end deals, with the oldest homes in the top 10 sales both less than a decade old, according to Crain's. On the North Shore, several of the priciest were for recently built homes or structures that were subsequently demolished.
